The Dons took the lead with two two-run rallies in the seventh and eighth innings. Randy Zanze's single scored two runs to tie the game in the seventh The next inning saw USF take the lead on Larrv Jones' hit up the middle, which scored two runs. Jones, along with Senn, made three hits in the game.

The hitting attack was led by Randy Zanze and Tad Tassone, who had two hits apiece. Larry Jones was the RBI leader with two. Against Cal Wednesday, USF came back from a 5 run deficit to tie the game 6-6. The big blows for the Dons were Gary Senn's two run homer and Zanze's three run triple. The ninth inning of that game seemed to change the mood of the team for the week. John Saunders started the inning and an error and a misjudged fly loaded the bases. From there the situation rapidly deteriorated. By the time the side was put out, Cal had scored eleven runs on five hits, five walks, a hit batter, and an error. The final score was 17-6.

The doubleheader against Sac State Friday was an absolute nightmare with USF losing both 10-5 and 9-3. In ten innings the pitchers gave up 19 runs on 24 hits. It seemed useless to make good pitches for they were hit safely anyway. If it weren't for some outstanding catches by Tad Tassone in center, there's no telling what the scores could have been. The hitters again had to bear the yoke of a large lead to surmount. In the first game, they rallied for five runs in the fifth. Three walks, singles by Gary Senn and Larry Jones, and a double by Bill Downing accounted for the runs. The three runs in the second game were a result of a hit by Paul O'Leary and a bases loaded walk to Tassone. To say the pitching got worse would strain the credulity of the reader. But against UOP, the Dons fell behind 11-2, and Randy Zanze, ordinarily a third baseman, came in to pitch for the Dons (TheFoghorn).
