The baseballers of USF came through with a pair of victories Saturday afternoon at Moraga, as they swept both ends of a double-header from St. Mary's by scores of 9-6 and 7-2. Right-handers Bill Enos and Steve Whitlock picked up the wins for the Dons — Enos chucking a seven-hitter in the opener and Whitlock finishing up with a four-hit effort for the second victory.
Don horsehiders whip Santa Clara nine 6-4 A sparkling seven-inning relief job by Don right hander Steve Whitlock combined with clutch hitting gave the Hilltop baseballers a sweet revenge victory over the Broncos from Santa Clara, 6-4, in a night contest Tuesday at Santa Clara. Whitlock took over from starting hurler Bill Enos in the third frame and very effectively scattered six hits in the lineup and moved to second base. The Dons began chipping at the four-run Bronco lead in the third inning. A walk to shortstop John Alaura, single by Barbeau, and a double by Enos USF brought in the first two tallies. Whitlock then came off the bench and white-washed the Prunelanders the rest of the way—allowing no more than one hit an inning, all singles. With Whitlock still holding the Broncos powerless, the Dons tallied their final two runs in the seventh frame. Two errors on Bronco third-sacker Bill Cutler brought in the markers that gave the Dons the victory (TheFoghorn).
