GENERAL CAPSULE - Above-average right-handed thrower who will start at the catching position... great contact hitter who can hit for power... will offer consistency.
AT USF (2003): Turned in a great first season at USF... rated second on the team with a .329 batting average with seven doubles, two home runs and 31 RBI... earned West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors after a monster series in a road sweep at Gonzaga (4/11-13), batting .455 (5-11) with two doubles, a home run and eight RBI... also batted .455 at San Diego (3/7-9)... recorded 18 multi-hit games and six multi-RBI contests... threw out 21 base-runners... belted three-run home run in win against Sonoma State (2/11)... quickly developed a reputation as one of the top catchers in the West Coast Conference, earning Second Team All-League selection.
AT ORANGE COAST (2001-2002) - Named All-Conference.
AT UNLV (1999-2001) - Played football and baseball... made Mountain West Conference and Academic All-Conference.
PREP CAREER - Quarterbacked for his high school football team,passing for 31,000 yards, 31 TDs and only 3 INTs... played four years of baseball, playing in the catcher position and compiling a.407 average, 4 HRs, 14 doubles and was named All-League... was League MVP and County MVP... All-state... National Football Foundation scholar athlete... Los Alamitos High School scholar athlete.
PERSONAL - Ryan Hanson... goal for the season is to help contribute to a WCC title... chose USF because it's a great place to play ball and get a quality education... if he could be anyone for a day he'd be Ted Williams... the best advice he could give is to "work hard and have fun"... Dick Butkis is his sports hero...plans to teach US history and coach high school baseball after he graduates... parents are Ken and Cathy Hanson... born October 22,1980 in Long Beach, CA.
