Biography: Minlend was a high scoring small forward who played basketball for three full seasons on the Hilltop. Minlend came to USF from First Assembly Academy in North Carolina where he averaged 26.0 points and 5.5 rebounds a game as a senior and 23.8 points and 6.0 rebounds as a junior. When he arrived on the Hilltop as a freshman, Minlend appeared in all 33 games and made 17 consecutive starts to close the year, finishing as the team’s third leading scorer with a 10.0 average. He was selected to WCC’s All-Freshman team. After sitting out the 2016-17 season with an injury, Minlend returned to action as a sophomore and had an excellent season, as he earned All-West Coast Conference Second Team honors in his return to the hardwood. Minlend finished the year second on the team with 451 points, averaging 14.5 points per game, and had 26 games with double-digit scoring, including a streak of 21-straight games in the middle of the season. In his final season with the Green and Gold as a junior, Minlend was again named to the All-WCC Second Team. He played and started all 34 games, logging a career-best 998 minutes, averaged 29.3 minutes per contest which was second on the team. Minlend finished the year with 491 points, averaging 14.4 points per game, thus becoming just the sixth player in the last 35 years to record back-to-back seasons with 450 or more points. He scored his 1,000 career USF point against Saint Mary’s on January 2nd.Â
Did You Know?: Minlend and his father Charles Minlend, Sr. have combined to score 2,626 points at the collegiate level. Minlend, Sr. scored 1,349 points in four years at St. John's from 1993-97, playing in 113 games. Minlend, Jr. scored 1,277 points in 105 games for USF and Louisville.
Life After USF: Minlend earned his Degree in 2020, and transferred to the University of Louisville as a graduate senior. He played sparingly at Louisville due to injury. He hopes to pursue a professional basketball career.Â
