The Aberdeen High School, WA track and field standout Faith Cardenas has made her choice to where she will continue her sprinting career.
At a signing ceremony on Wednesday at Aberdeen High School, Cardenas inked a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of San Francisco in the Fall.
The Bobcats senior speedster won three events at Saturday’s Ray Ryan Memorial meet — claiming county titles in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter events with times of 13.20, 27.62 and 1:01.89, respectively. Her time in the 200 was a season best.
Cardenas has won Female Athlete of the Meet at the All-County event each of the past three seasons. Last season, she placed fourth overall in the 400 meters at the state championships with a time of 58.14, a personal best.
An all-around athlete, Cardenas has also competed twice at the state finals in cross country as well as placing sixth in the state at last winter’s wrestling Mat Classic.
She has earned four varsity letters in wrestling and track and two additional letters competing in cross country.
The senior honor student plans on majoring in kinesiology with a minor in psychology while competing for the NCAA Division I Lady Dons track program (Aberdeenbulldogsathletics).
The regular season wrapped up for the University of San Francisco track team on Saturday in Southern California at the Oxy Classic, with another school record in the 4x400 meter relay and plenty of other season-ending marks by the Dons to solidify their positioning in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary meet at month's end.

The 4x400 relay squad of Samantha Lind, Alena Ulrichova, Faith Cardenas and Sadi Henderson set a program record yet again this season with a time of 3 minutes, 45.90 seconds. The team placed second overall behind crosstown neighbor Academy of Art, who narrowly won the event in 3:45.26 (USFAthletics).
