Zimmer was drafted out of USF by the Kansas City royals in the 1st Round of the 2012 MLB Draft and played for them from 2019 to 2021. Zimmer bounced between the Royals and AAA Omaha for most of the year, appearing in 15 games with a 10.80 earned run average at the major league level. With the 2020 Kansas City Royals, Zimmer appeared in 16 games, compiling a 1–0 record with a 1.57 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. In 2021, he went 4–1 with a 4.83 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 54 innings. After being chosen fifth in the first round of the draft—the highest pick in USF baseball history—Zimmer made a promise: one day he’d finish his Business degree. He returned in 2013 to do that with two semesters to complete.

2011 SEASON: Totaled a team-high 89 strikeouts this season, including a career-high 14 strike out game against Saint Mary’s… tied for eighth in single-season strikeouts… has made 20 appearances with 16 of them starts… tied for team lead in wins with 6-4 record… totaled 91.4 innings with a 3.73 ERA… went 4-1 in WCC play… named WCC Pitcher of the Week for his play during the final week of the regular season… named InsidePitching.com West Region Pitcher of the Week on April 11… six outings went seven innings or longer... struck out eight in his first win of the season against UC Davis (2/27), giving up just two runs on six hits… threw a no-hit inning at California (3/16)… struck out 14 in 7/2 innings against Saint Mary’s, allowing zero runs and five hits (4/9)… went seven innings against Pepperdine (5/13) to yield just two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts… struck out two one inning against Cal State Bakersfield (5/24)… earned his fifth win of the season against Gonzaga (5/27) after giving up just two runs on six hits in seven innings of work… claimed his first save of the season by pitching a one-hit ninth inning against Gonzaga to seal the Don’s WCC Championship (5/29)… threw his first collegiate complete game in a 3-0 win against No. 12 UCLA in the NCAA Los Angeles Regionals, where he shut out the Bruins, gave up just four hits and struck out 11 (6/3).

2010 SUMMER: Turned in the lowest ERA of any USF pitcher during the summer with a 1.37 ERA in 46 innings of work for the Alexandria Aces of Towson, Maryland named Honorable Mention All-Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League.

2010 SEASON: Made five appearances and pitched 5.1 innings… totaled seven strikeouts with an 8.44 ERA… struck out three in one inning at San Diego (3/11)… pitched a shutout inning against UC Riverside (3/20). 

PREP CAREER: Played four years of baseball at La Jolla High School... led team as a senior with .410 batting average, .492 on base percentage, and .701 slugging percentage on his way to team MVP honors... was team captain in 2009... had nine doubles, two triples, 4 home runs, and 23 RBI as a senior... named to the San Diego All-Academic team with a 4.20 G.P.A.... also played two years of water polo and one year of basketball... honor roll student... finished in the top 15 percent of his class... Cum Laude Society member.

PERSONAL: Born in September of 1991 in San Francisco, CA... son of Eric and Cathy Zimmer... dad played baseball at UC San Diego and mom ran track for San Diego State... goal for the season is to help the team with a conference championship and make it to Omaha... chose USF for the coaching staff and the location... likes the feeling of having a 'second family' the best about being a student-athlete... would like to be LeBron James for a day... lists his day as the most impressive person he's ever met... favorite movie is Caddyshack... favorite book is The Outsiders... favorite musical artist is Lil Wayne... favorite food is steak... hobbies include surfing, snowboarding, and eating... majoring in Business Administration.
