MILLBRAE — Senior guard Keshia Suhail is one of the best shooters in County high schools. The 5-foot-6 guard proved it Thursday night when she poured in a career-high 27 points to lead Mills to a 53-35 girls basketball win over Sequoia in a Championship bracket game at the Kelly Shea Gallo Classic at Mills High.

Suhail buried seven 3-pointers, also a career-high. Mills (2-0) needed every point, as the Vikes had trouble shaking pesky Sequoia (1-1). The score was 23-23 at halftime.

Suhail helped Mills control the second half by making a pair of 3-pointers in the first few minutes after the intermission. She made two more in the fourth quarter and was joined by guard Amanda Lee, who buried three 3-pointers.

“When Keshia gets hot, she can hit anything,” said Mills coach Dan Salvemini. “And she was on fire tonight. We did a better job defensively in the third quarter when we worked on preventing them from getting the ball inside. Our post players, Mary Afuhaamango and Pilar Mullins did a great job there (EastBayTimes).”
