GENERAL CAPSULE: Widely regarded as one of the best infielders in the state... drafted twice (Seattle, 2004 and Arizona, 2005)... versatile player, capable of playing all infield positions. Attended USF and played for the Dons, and was drafted by New York in 2007 (Round: 32nd, Overall Pick: 992nd)

AT COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS (2005-2006): Earned All-Western State First Team honors, finishing the 2006 season batting .306 with 10 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 26RBI and 25 runs... hit .275 with 10 doubles and four home runs as a freshman.

PREP CAREER: Four-year baseball letter-winner at Quartz Hill High School... named league MVP after the 2003 season, after batting .516 with seven home runs. 

PERSONAL: Brian James Chavez... nickname is Chavey... goal for the season is for the Dons to win the conference and go to the World Series... chose USFbecause he felt it was a perfect fit... hobbies include fishing and listening to music... wants to be President Bush for a day...favorite quote is by Theodore Roosevelt "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far"... counts his grandfather as the most impressive person he's ever met... favorite movie is Poolhall Junkies... favorite book is Beowulf... favorite food is mom's home cooking... parents are Jim and Lisa Chavez... born February 23,1986 in Mission Hills, CA. 6'2", 190 lbs.
