GENERAL CAPSULE: Great all-around player... can score and make plays from anywhere on the floor... good court awareness and excellent instincts... penetrates and defends well... expected to score and make plays this season.
2000-2001 SEASON: (11.4PPG, 3.2 RPG, 3.1 APG, 1.1 SPG): Made an immediate impact for the Dons in her first season on the Hilltop... averaged 11.4 points to rank second on the team in scoring... pumped in a career-high 26 points against Pepperdine in the first round of the 2001 West Coast Conference Tournament...scored 23 points in the tournament semifinals against Loyola Marymount (3/2/01) and also scored 20 at LMU (1/27/01) during the regular season... reached double-digit scoring 19 times... dished out a career-high eight assists to go along with 16 points against Gonzaga (2/10/01)... passed out five or more assists on six occasions... averaged 12.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists during league play... pulled down a career-high seven rebounds in a victory against UMass (12/1/00)... connected on a team-high 443-pointers, converting on .419 (44-105) from long distance... 44 threes ranks third in the USF single-season record books, while .419 from beyond the 3-point arc rates sixth in program history...earned All-WCC Honorable Mention Honors last season after averaging 12.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists during league action... ranked among conference leaders in scoring (14th), 3-point percentage (third) in overall contests and during league action improved to the top-10 in scoring (10th), assists (6th), free throw percentage (7th), 3-point percentage (4th) and 3-pointers made (6th)...established a new WCC Tournament record with 10 3-pointers made.
AT CONTRA COSTA COLLEGE: One of just 10 players awarded with Kodak All-American accolades in 1999-2000... earned All-State honors after averaging 20.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 4.6 steals per game for the Comets.... also won MVP honors in the Bay Valley Conference and the Bay Division.... posted a 3.8 GPA.
PREP CAREER: Four year player at Pinole Valley High School...earned MVP Honors in the BVAL League as a senior... named one of the top 100 athletes of Contra Costa/Tri-Valley Times... led entire region in scoring with 22.4 points per game... also averaged 12 rebounds and five assists per contest.
PERSONAL: Alicia Hernandez... enjoys basketball, water skiing and sleeping in her spare time... best advice she's ever been given is to keep your composure... best advice she would give to youngsters is stop, drop and roll... favorite movie is Young Guns... daughter of Anne Veronica Hernandez... born January 8, 1981in Richmond, CA.
WHY USF?: I liked the team, the school and the atmosphere. It is also close to home.
STRAIGHT FROM THE COACHING STAFF: Alicia came on very strong at the end of last season. She has the ability to score, but can also get others involved. We are expecting a great season from Alicia.She is a quality player with a passion for winning.
