Biography: Ponticelli played baseball for three years on the Hilltop. He was a right-handed starting pitcher who capped off his career with an excellent junior season, going 6-4 on the mound with a 3.68 ERA and 78 strikeouts. As a sophomore in 2017 he emerged as the Dons most consistent starter and posted a 4-2 record with a 2.45 ERA, which ranked third in the West Coast Conference. Ponticelli led the pitching staff with 65 strikeouts over 69 2/3 innings, while walking just 10 batters all year, the fewest in the West Coast Conference.
Life After USF:Â Following his junior season on the Hilltop, Ponticelli was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 2018 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. He is currently playing for the Lake County Captains in the Indians minor league system.
