Biography: Maffei played baseball for two years for the Green and Gold. He came to USF from the College of San Mateo and made an immediate impact as a junior as the Dons offensive catalyst, finishing first on the Dons in nine offensive categories and ranking among the top five in the West Coast Conference in five major categories. Maffei led the West Coast Conference in stolen bases with 24 in 29 attempts, 11 steals better than the runner-up, he ranked third in the conference in runs scored (46) and on-base percentage (.453), first in hit by pitch (19), and fourth in walks (34). He continued his hot hitting as a senior in 2013, batting .292 with five home runs and 22 RBIs playing in 59 games for USF.Â

Life After USF: After graduation, Maffei was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 25th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft. He reached the AAA in 2016 and 2017, appearing in 16 total games with Indianapolis. He is currently working as a private baseball instructor.Â
