Life After USF: Giarratano was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 24th round (726th overall) of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. He's currently playing for Generales de Durango in the Mexican League.
2017 (SENIOR): Started all 57 games at shortstop, committing just four errors in 259 chances… became the WCC career leader in defensive assists, finishing his career with 602 assists after surpassing the previous record of 583 set by LMU’s Bob Sheldon (1969-1972)… led the conference with 169 defensive assists on the year… posted a .985 fielding percentage… hit .218 with two home runs and 35 RBIs, which were the fourth-most on the team… ranked third on the team with 14 doubles… became the USF career leader in at bats (887) and ended his career with 42 doubles, good for 10th on the all-time list… had a season-high three hits on four occasions… enjoyed a 3-for-4 day at Grand Canyon on Mar. 10, doubling and driving in season-best four runs… went 3-for-6 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored in a win over Pepperdine on May 7… drove in three runs with a base-clearing triple at San Jose State on May 14… went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and a run scored in a win over Winthrop at the Coastal Carolina Tournament on Mar. 4… a preseason All-WCC selection… earned WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention recognition… was the recipient of the team’s Jermaine Clark Award given to the defensive MVP for the second year in a row... drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 24th round (726th overall).
2016 SUMMER:Â Played his third consecutive season in the Cape Cod League, this time with the Wareham Gatemen... made just two errors in 35 games... hit .204 with a home run and four RBI... was 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts... had a double and two runs scored in the playoffs. Â
2016 (JUNIOR): Became the Dons first WCC Defensive Player of the Year since Stephen Yarrow (2011) and third Don overall to receive the honor... also earned All-WCC Honorable Mention recognition... was a WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention honoree... started all 56 games at shortstop, committing just four errors in 264 chances... helped lead the Dons to a conference-best .983 fielding pct. in WCC play... anchored a USF defense whose .975 fielding pct. overall was 2nd-best in the conference... his 176 defensive assists overall led the WCC and rank as the 3rd-most in a single season in USF history... committed just one error in 27 WCC games for a .992 fielding pct.... hit .251 on the year with three home runs and 28 RBI... had a team-best 18-game on-base streak between Mar. 29 - Apr. 30... drove in a season-high three runs against Grand Canyon (Mar. 8)... hit home runs against Grand Canyon (Mar. 8), at Cal (Mar. 29) and at Fresno State (May 19)... had a season-best three hits on two occasions - vs. Hawai’i (Feb. 28) and vs. BYU (May 12)... ended the year in the middle of a season-best 11-game hitting streak... tallied the 3rd-most multi-hit games (13) on the team... ranked third in the conference in at-bats (223)... was 5-for-6 in stolen base attempts... hit nine doubles, including two at Saint Mary's (Apr. 30)... his 34 runs scored were the 2nd-most on the team... won the Dante Benedetti Award with Ryan Matranga as the team MVP and the Jermaine Clark Award for the team's Defensive Player of the Year.  Â

2015 SUMMER:Â Played with the Brewster White Caps in his second stint in the Cape Cod League... hit .220 in 32 games with five doubles and four RBI... drew 11 walks and scored 10 runs.Â
2015 (SOPHOMORE):Â Started in all 54 games at shortstop... drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning against No. 24 California (Mar. 17) with a double down the left field line...saw his batting average jump over .100 points after a stretch where he hit .396 and hit safely in 14-of-15 games, including a 12-game hitting streak (Apr. 2-Apr. 19), which was tied for the second best on the team... had 13 multi-hit games... had a season-high three hits in games vs. Santa Clara (Apr. 3, 3-for-3) and Loyola Marymount (May 17, 3-for-5)... enjoyed a 2-for-4 day with two triples and two RBI vs. Portland (Apr. 12)... drove in a season-best two runs on three different occasions (Mar. 17 vs. Cal; Apr. 12 vs. Portland; May 2, vs. Pepperdine - second game of doubleheader).Â
2014 SUMMER:Â Played for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League... finished the regular season hitting .279 and hit a scalding .339 in the final 19 games... helped Red Sox claim the CCBL championship.
2014 (FRESHMAN):Â Started in 52 games at shortstop in his freshman season... had first multi-hit game on Feb. 15 against UC Riverside... from Apr. 10 to Apr. 19, he hit .366 (11-for-30) with his first career home run and seven RBI... had the 11th inning walk-off hit against Pacific on Apr. 12 to send the Dons to a 3-2 win... finished with 22 RBI, tied for fourth on the team... named to WCC All-Freshman Team.
HIGH SCHOOL: Helped guide St. Ignatius to a Central Coast Section championship in 2012 and was named to the All-City team by SanFranPreps.com... was also selected to a pre-season All-Senior Second Team and was a West Catholic Athletic League All-League Honorable Mention... his highlight game came when he went 5-for-5 with two triples, two doubles, and five RBI against San Luis Obispo High in 2012... hit .330 with 20 RBI that season.
PERSONAL:Â Nico is one of two children of Nino and Brenda Giarratano... father, Nino, is the head baseball coach at USF... outside of baseball, enjoys cooking, watching movies, and golfing... Business Administration major.
