Hometown:Â La Mesa, CA
Career Highlights:Â Four-year letter winner for Cross Country; Graduated Cum laude
Biography:Â Meek was a four-year letter winner for the Cross Country team, and also competed on USF's first track and field team. A stellar student, she graduated Cum Laude, and completed her major requirements, and finished her course work in three years. She ran the 1600 meter run in a time of 5:11 during her senior season.
Why Meek Chose USF:Â "I felt at home. In fact, it was my home away from home for three years of my life. I felt as though I belonged and had an instant connection with both my future teammates and professors while attending USF on a recruiting trip my senior year of high school. The department head for the Exercise and Sport Science department even made a personal phone call to my house after the visit to answer any question and ease any anxiety about the college experience. Upon stepping onto the campus and after several other recruiting trips, it was one of those moments that you just know, when you know."
Favorite USF Memories:Â "I was a member of both the women's cross-country and women's inaugural track and field teams under the coaching of Helen Lehman-Winters. We were the building blocks for what would become a nationally recognized cross-country team. I built lifelong friendships with several of the women on the team. They became my chosen family."
The USF Student-Athlete Experience:Â "Being instantly connected to the school's climate and culture. Before the first official day of freshman year, I already had instant friends who would later become my "chosen family" in my teammates. I felt connected and never alone. Moving away from home, can be a scary and unsettling time but with athletics I never felt on my own. I also loved the traveling we did as a team and the opportunities that were given to student-athletes academically."
Life After USF: Meek moved back home to San Diego and earned her single-subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education and Introductory Science. She taught Exercise and Nutrition Science at an urban charter school within a low-income community for seven years before moving into more of an administrative role. In 2019, Meek graduated from San Diego State University with a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administrative Services Credential. She currently works at Health Sciences High School and Middle College, as Fitness Manager, Athletic Director and Academic Response Manager.Â
